Here is a final status update on the new site. You may have noticed that the layout has changed since the last time you visited. We have decided to go with a modified version of the Nirvana WordPress theme from Cryout Creations. This is a great theme, and if you like it, please support the authors. I digress.
We have decided against using Drupal for this site, for the time being. Technically speaking, there is a much steeper learning curve for Drupal than our current CMS system. It’s not worth having to learn and then have to import massive amounts of data.
Software upgrades, including those to the database and to the runtime software for the site’s CMS system, have been made.
OneCross has decided to become a secure site. It has been a long time coming, and with Google pressing sites to become SSL enabled, now seemed like as good of a time as any.
Branding has changed, quite drastically. The original designs were created during a time when the site was in its infancy. New logos were created out of a desire to shift attention away from branding and to the content, and consistency was required. While very similar in design to a popular mega-church website’s logos, OneCross is an autonomous, independent website not affiliated with any ministry partners.
We have put in Google’s “Invisible reCAPTCHA” and enabled Akismet anti-spam. These decisions were made to keep spam to a minimum and were not made lightly.
As a final note, we have installed some software designed to speed up load times, but it does come at the cost that up to date content may be delayed by up to 15 minutes.
